Shine (Promo)

1. April 1986/in Promo (Deutschland), Promo-D, Single/von Stawi

Mit Jon Anderson, dem Frontsänger von der Gruppe “YES“, produzierte Mike Oldfield 1986 den Song “Shine”. Dabei komponierte Mike Oldfield die Musik und Jon Anderson schrieb gemeinsam mit Mike die Lyrics.

Der Song lebt in erster Linie von der eindringlichen Vocalstimme. Wer “Yes” aus den Achtziger kennt, weiß was ich meine. “Shine” ist kein richtiger Popsong aus den Achtziger und irgendwie schwer einzuordnen. Durch die Sangeslast von Jon Anderson ist er wohl in die Progrock Schiene einzuordnen.

In der deutschen Hitparade war “Shine” gerade mal eine Woche vertreten. Was mich damals verwunderte, da ich den Song richtig gut fand. Dies konnte aber auch an der Tatsache liegen, das 1986 kein Album oder weitere Single von Mike Oldfield veröffentlicht wurde.

“Shine” hatte gleich eine ganze Reihe von Alternativ- bzw. Arbeitstitel. Sie stammen alle aus dem Songtext und hießen “She Was She Was”, “If Rainbows Could Dance” und “Made In Heaven”. Der erste Titel wurde verworfen, da die Talking Heads im Vorjahr “And She Was” als Single auf den Markt gebracht hatten.

Der Song wurde auf keinem Album veröffentlicht. Auch eine Veröffentlichung auf CD erfolgte in den nächsten Jahren vorerst nicht.

Die erste Digitalquelle von “Shine” gibt es auf der Laserdisc Wind Chimes aus dem Jahre 1988. Dann dauerte es über 15 Jahre, bis der Song auf eine weitere Compilation erschien. Auf der DVD Elements – The Best Of.. konnte man dann Ende 2004 in bester Klang- und Bildqualität erleben.

Ähnlich erging es auch der B-Seite. “The Path” wurde nur auf der Compilation “Elements” veröffentlicht. “The Path” ist ein kleines Instrumentalstück, das auf seine Art recht ruhig daher kommt. Getragen von ruhigen Xylophonklängen mit sehr ruhiger Gitarrenbegleitung. Der Song selber stammt aus dem Jahre 1979 und lässt sich zu Incantations undPlatinum ohne weiteres einordnen.

Die Promo Single entspricht der später veröffentlichen Single. Sie Unterscheidet sich nur durch einen Aufkleber auf dem Cover und dem Promosheet von der offiziellen Single.

Ein kleiner Fehler ist auf der B-Seite. Obwohl “The Path” nur von Mike Oldfield ist, wird hier Jon Anderson mit abgedruckt.

Pictures in the dark (Promo)

“Pictures in the dark” von Mike Oldfield erschien 1985. Aufgenommen wurde der Song mit Anita Hegerland und Aled Jones. Mike Oldfield selber sang einige Vocalparts.

Die Single wurde im gleichen Jahr auch als Maxi-Single veröffentlicht. Allerdings erschien der Song auf keinem Album von Mike Oldfield.

Ausnahme machte in den achtziger Jahren die Compilations der ersten Vinyl Ausgabe von “The Complete”.

Später erschien der Song auf der Laserdisc Wind Chimes.

Auf CD kamen die deutschen nur in Genuss, wenn sie 2002 die Compilations Danish Collection oder Collection ergatterten.

Im Jahre 2004 erschien “Pictures in the dark” dann noch einmal auf der neuen Elements – The Best Of Mike Oldfield.

Die hier vorgestellte Single, ist eine deutsche Promo-Ausgabe auf Vinyl.
